How does the "When someone adds specific products to their cart" trigger work?

When designing your own Moosend automations the first that you'll need to do is choose a trigger out of the available automation trigger types. The trigger type titled "When someone adds specific products to their cart" is an example of a trigger type that requires that you first set up your Moosend account so that it identifies your website users in order for it to work. This trigger reacts by putting your automation in motion when someone adds a product that meets specific conditions to their online cart, inside one of your websites.

There are three parameters that you need to define on this type of trigger:

1. You need to choose whether the automation will be triggered every time someone adds the product to their online cart, or whether it will be triggered only the first time the product is added.

2. The second parameter you need to define is the website in which the product needs to be added in the cart, in order to trigger your automation!

You can find a list of the websites which you manage on the drop-down menu; if you choose a specific one out of the list, all events from the other websites will be ignored.

3. The third parameter which you need to define is the condition the added to cart product(s) must meet, in order to trigger your automation.

The condition is formed by a combination of two drop-down menus and a free text input field.

The first drop-down menu (1) is where you select the property the condition refers to.

The 4 properties you can choose from are Name, Code, Category, Manufacturer. Please note that you can only select one property per trigger.

The second drop-down menu (2) is where you select the operator that forms the condition.

The 4 operators you can choose from are:

  • Is any of - all added products that exactly match any of the selected property values entered will trigger the automation.
  • Is not any of - all added products that do not exactly match any of the selected property values entered will trigger the automation.
  • Contains any of - all added products that partly match any of the selected property values entered will trigger the automation.
  • Does not contain any of - all added products that do not partly match any of the selected property values entered will trigger the automation.

Depending on your choices above, you enter the values you wish your trigger to apply to in the input field (3). Please note that you can add more than one value. Just use a comma or press your keyboard's Enter key in order to separate the different values.

Example:

Using the below condition, the e-shop manager wanted to target all their most expensive brand products potential customers, in order to re-engage them by sending them an offer a few days later.

This type of trigger is commonly used on automations of the Abandoned Cart variety. You can build your own as soon as you learn how to use Actions and how to use the available Conditional / Control steps.
