There's nothing like an exciting countdown to get you all prepped up for an event, a sale, a reveal. The same applies for your subscribers. So why not add a nice, fully functional timer inside your email marketing campaigns and let your subscriber know that the clock ... is ticking!
As soon as you begin defining your newsletter design's structure you can start adding elements to it. One of the available element types is the Timer.
Let's see how you can add one to your design:
A. Adding a timer element
1. Click on the Elements button, located on the left side of your Editor page.
2. Drag-n'-drop the Timer element, from the elements list, to an empty container inside the Editor page.
Make sure that your container is of the Full Width variety as that is the only container size that can accommodate a timer element!
B. Selecting a timer theme
1. Click on the Settings icon, which appears when you place your mouse over your timer.
Clicking on the timer itself has the same result, namely bringing up the timer settings on the left side of the Editor page.
2. Select an option from the Select theme drop-down menu, located on the timer settings.
You can choose between:
- Plain theme
This is the default option.
- Boxes theme
This theme creates boxes around each counter inside the timer (days, hours, minutes, seconds) and it gives you setting options so that you modify the design of these boxes in detail.
C. Setting up the timer
If you opted for the default Plain option from the Select theme timer setting, then the rest of the available settings will be as follows:
- Background Color
Allows you to choose a colour out of a colour palette, for the area behind your timer.
- Expiration Date
This is the most important setting! It allows you the set the duration of the countdown by selecting the specific date and time when the countdown will reach its conclusion.
- Font Family
Drop-down list which allows you to select between commonly used font types for the label letters and counter numbers of the timer.
- Label Color
Allows you to pick a colour out of a colour palette, for the labels under each counter.
- Time Color
Allows you to pick a colour out of a colour palette, for the numbers on the counters.
- Edit Labels
An additional menu which allows you to edit the labels inside your timer.
Choosing the Boxes option instead, gives you additional settings pertaining to the design of the boxes inside the timer:
- Box Color
Allows you to choose a colour out of a colour palette, for the boxes inside your timer.
- Box radius
Changes the radius of each box. Values go from 0 (square) to 60 (circle).
- Border Color
Allows you to choose a colour out of a colour palette, for the border of the boxes.
- Border width
Sets the width for the border of the boxes inside your timer. Value range is 0 to 29.
D. Setting the expiration date
This is the heart of the timer, so it bears looking into in more detail.
1. Click on the Expiration Date area, located on the timer settings list.
A calendar appears.
2. Click on the blue buttons to navigate between months.
A warning will appear if you try to navigate to a date before the current one.
3. Click on a date to select when your timer will expire.
4. Select the Time page, to set the exact time on that date when the timer will expire.
5. Drag the Hours and Minutes sliders to set the exact time of day.
Remember that the format is hh:mm set in 24-hour time.
6. Click on the Save button when you're done.
Keep in mind that the time you set the timer is based on your timezone and will expire at the same time for all users. For example, if you set your timer to expire in 5 hours, it will expire for everyone, regardless their timezone, in 5 hours.
E. Editing your labels
You have the option to edit the labels inside your timer. You can get very creative here, but don't forget that the countdown will always work as described regardless of what you write on your new labels.
1. Click on the Edit Labels menu to expand it.
2. Edit the existing label texts, using the available text-boxes.
F. Generating your timer
Any change you've made on any of the available settings will have an effect on the timer, that is already located inside your design, as soon as you click on the Generate Timer button.
