Coming up with a good, memorably and secure password can be difficult. Passwords are none the less necessary! So here are some tips to get you going:
- Choose a password that is at least 8 characters long - the longer it is the more difficult it is for anyone to crack it
- It's a good idea to put a punctuation mark in the middle of your password (e.g. news&letter or reci%pient)
- Use a mix of lower and upper case characters, numbers and punctuation marks. This might make your password hard to remember but avoid writing it down
- A cool way to create a secure password is to take a quote out of your favorite movie, or a proverb you like and use the first and last letter of each word from there
- Mix any of the above ideas
Avoid using any of the following:
- Words from the dictionary
- Your user name
- Your real name
- Your birthday date
- The names of your family members
- Anyone's name is a bad idea actually as it is very common for crackers to use lists of more than 100.000 names in cracker programs
- Adding a single character at the beginning or end of a word (e.g. 1family or goal7)
- Using a capital letter at the beginning of the word (e.g. Family)
- Using the same word twice (e.g. familyfamily)
