Segmentation rules in your email list segments

Moosend lets you create segments in your email lists to improve the efficiency of your email marketing campaigns. To achieve this, you must have a vast list of options when setting your list segment's conditions. This means that each segment you create can become a perfect representation of your email marketing strategy.

You can define the segmentation rules by selecting the condition in the 1st drop-down menu, selecting the comparer in the second drop-down menu, and entering the value in the 3rd field, as shown below:

Moosend comes with the following segmentation conditions:

Condition Description How to use
Member Email Finds all the email addresses from your group of recipients that contain a particular keyword

1st drop-down menu: select Member Email

2nd drop-down menu: select if the email is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with

3rd field: enter the email address 

Member Name Fetches recipients with a particular name for a special name-day offering.

1st drop-down menu: select Member Name

2nd drop-down menu: select if the name is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with / is empty / is not empty 

3rd field: enter the name

Member Mobile Organizes recipients according to their mobile number.

1st drop-down menu: select Member Mobile 

2nd drop-down menu: select if the mobile number is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with / is empty / is not empty 

3rd field: enter the mobile number

Member Tag Distinguishes recipients of your mailing lists using a tag identification.

1st drop-down menu: select Member Tag

2nd drop-down menu: select if the tag is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with / is empty / is not empty 

3rd field: enter the tag

Date Added Fetches recipients according to the date they were added to your mailing list.

1st drop-down menu: select Date Added

2nd drop-down menu: select if the date is / is not / is before / is after a specific date, or is between / is not between two dates

3rd field: enter the date or value based on the selected option in the 4th field

4th field: select the option for Year/ Month /Date /Day, or within X Days / Hours / Minutes passed

Date Updated Filters recipients based on when their information was last updated.

1st drop-down menu: select Date Updated

2nd drop-down menu: select if the date is / is not / is before / is after a specific date, or is between / is not between two dates

3rd field: enter the date or value based on the selected option in the 4th field

4th field: select the option for Year/ Month /Date /Day, or within X Days / Hours / Minutes passed

Date & Time Added Fetches recipients according to the date and time they were added to your mailing list.

1st drop-down menu: select Date & Time Added

2nd drop-down menu: select if the date is / is not / is before / is after a specific date, or is between / is not between two dates

3rd field: enter the date or value based on the selected option in the 4th field

4th field: select the option for Year/ Month /Date /Day, or within X Days / Hours / Minutes passed

Date & Time Updated Filters recipients based on when their information was last updated.

1st drop-down menu: select Date & Time Updated

2nd drop-down menu: select if the date is / is not / is before / is after a specific date, or is between / is not between two dates

3rd field: enter the date or value based on the selected option in the 4th field

4th field: select the option for Year/ Month /Date /Day, or within X Days / Hours / Minutes passed

Other Mailing List Filters recipients based on whether they belong to a different list or not.

1st drop-down menu: select Other Mailing List

2nd drop-down menu: select if the mailing list is / is not 

3rd field: enter the email list name

Verified for Double Opt-in Filters recipients based on whether they are verified for the Double Opt-in setting.

1st drop-down menu: select Verified for Double Opt-in

2nd drop-down menu: select if the mailing list is true / is false

Subscription Method Filters recipients according to the way they were added to your mailing lists.

1st drop-down menu: select Subscription Method

2nd drop-down menu: select if the method is / is not one of the following options: Unknown, Add Member, API Integration, Form, Batch Subscribe Action, Automation, Zapier, Mailchimp Synchronizer, Tracked Website, Transactional Campaign or Another Integration 

Use segment_clock.png  to specify the date and time of the subscription

Opened Any Campaign Filters recipients based on whether they have opened any campaign or not.

1st drop-down menu: select Opened Any Campaign

2nd drop-down menu: select if the recipients opened a campaign condition is true / is false

Opened Any Campaign Titled Filters recipients according to if they have opened any campaign, based on its title.

1st drop-down menu: select Opened Any Campaign Titled

2nd drop-down menu: select if the campaign name is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with

3rd field: enter the campaign name

Use segment_clock.pngto specify the date and time the campaign was opened

Opened Campaign Name (deprecated) Filters recipients based on the names of the campaigns they have opened.

1st drop-down menu: select Opened Campaign Name (deprecated)

2nd drop-down menu: select if the campaign name is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with

3rd field: enter or select the campaign name

Use segment_clock.pngto specify the date and time the campaign was opened

Specific Campaign Sent Filters recipients who have received a certain campaign.

1st drop-down menu: select Specific Campaign Sent

2nd drop-down menu: select if the campaign name is / is not 

3rd field: select the campaign name. The most recent campaigns are at the top of the list.

Specific Campaign Opened Filters recipients who have opened a specific campaign based on the campaign's ID.

1st drop-down menu: select Specific Campaign Opened

2nd drop-down menu: select if the campaign name is / is not 

3rd field: select the campaign name

Specific Sent Campaign Not Opened Filters recipients who have not opened a specific campaign based on the campaign's ID.

1st drop-down menu: select Specific Sent Campaign Not Opened

2nd drop-down menu: select if the campaign name is / is not 

3rd field: select the campaign name

Specific Campaign Clicked Filters recipients who have clicked a specific campaign.

1st drop-down menu: select Specific Campaign Clicked

2nd drop-down menu: select if the campaign name is / is not 

3rd field: select the campaign name

Number of Campaigns Opened Filters recipients who have opened your newsletter any number of times or who have never opened any campaign during a specific period of time.

1st drop-down menu: select Number of Campaigns Opened 

2nd drop-down menu: select if the number of campaigns opened is / is not / is more than / is at least / is less than / is at most

3rd field: enter the number of campaigns

Use segment_clock.pngto specify the date and time the campaign was opened

Number of Campaigns Clicked Filters recipients who have clicked on your newsletter links any specific number of times, or list members who have never clicked on any link during a specific period of time.

1st drop-down menu: select Number of Campaigns Clicked

2nd drop-down menu: select if the number of campaigns clicked is / is not / is more than / is at least / is less than / is at most

3rd field: enter the number of campaigns

Specific Link URL Clicked Filters recipients based on the links they click

1st drop-down menu: select Specific Link URL Clicked

2nd drop-down menu: select if the URL is / is not 

3rd field: enter the URL

Device Type Filters recipients based on whether they open your campaigns through their mobile phone, their desktops, or another type of device.

1st drop-down menu: select Device Type

2nd drop-down menu: select if the device type is / is not 

3rd field: select Desktop/ Mobile/ Other 

Operating System Filter recipients based on the operating system they use.

1st drop-down menu: select Operating System 

2nd drop-down menu: select if the OS  is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with

3rd field: select unknown / iOS / Custom value

Email Client Filters recipients according to the email client they use to open your campaigns.

1st drop-down menu: select Email Client

2nd drop-down menu: select if the email client is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with

3rd field: select unknown / Other/Web Email / Custom value

Web Browser Filters recipients according to the web browser they use to open your campaigns.

1st drop-down menu: select Web Browser

2nd drop-down menu: select if the web browser is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with

3rd field: select Chrome/ Microsoft Edge/ Custom value.

Mobile Browser Filters recipients according to the mobile browser they use to open your campaigns.

1st drop-down menu: select Mobile Browser

2nd drop-down menu: select if the mobile browser is / is not / contains / does not contain / starts with / does not start with / ends with / does not end with

3rd field: enter the mobile browser name

Added a Product To Cart Filters recipients based on whether they have added a product to their cart.

1st drop-down menu: select Added a Product to Cart

2nd drop-down menu: select if the product added is true / is false

3rd field: enter the product code if you want to filter a specific product, or leave this blank to filter any product.

4rd field: select the connected website where the product was added

Use segment_clock.pngto specify the date and time the product was added

Viewed a Product Filters recipients based on whether they have viewed a product.

1st drop-down menu: select Viewed a Product 

2nd drop-down menu: select if the product added is true / is false

3rd field: enter the product code if you want to filter a specific product, or leave this blank to filter any product.

4rd field: select the connected website where the product was viewed

Use segment_clock.pngto specify the date and time the product was viewed

Purchased a product Filters recipients based on whether they have purchased a product.

1st drop-down menu: select Purchased a Product 

2nd drop-down menu: select if the product purchased is true / is false

3rd field: enter the product code if you want to filter a specific product, or leave this blank to filter any product.

4rd field: select the connected website where the product was purchased

Use segment_clock.pngto specify the date and time the product was purchased

Order total
Filters recipients based on the total sum of a particular order.

1st drop-down menu: select Order Total

2nd drop-down menu: select if the total order is / is not / is more than / is at least / is less than / is at most

3rd field: enter the total number of orders

4rd field: select the connected website where the order was made

Use segment_clock.pngto specify the date and time the product was purchased

Total spent Filters recipients based on the total sum spent for all the orders made.

1st drop-down menu: select Total Spent

2nd drop-down menu: select if the total spent is / is not / is more than / is at least / is less than / is at most

3rd field: enter the total amount spent

4rd field: select the connected website where the total amount was spent

5th field: enter the product code if you want to filter a specific product, or leave this blank to filter any product

Average spent per order Filters recipients based on the average amount spent per order.

1st drop-down menu: select Average Spent Per Order

2nd drop-down menu: select if the average spent per order is / is not / is more than / is at least / is less than / is at most

3rd field: enter the average amount spent 

4rd field: select the connected website where the total amount was spent

Purchased product price Filters recipients based on the value of a product purchased.

1st drop-down menu: select Purchased Product Price 

2nd drop-down menu: select if the product price is / is not / is more than / is at least / is less than / is at most

3rd field: enter the price of purchased product 

4rd field: select the connected website where the total amount was spent

5th field: enter the product code if you want to filter a specific product, or leave this blank to filter any product 

Custom Fields Filters based on any custom fields you've created in your email lists to get your contacts location, gender, age, and so on.

1st drop-down menu: select the specific custom field you want to use.

2nd drop-down menu: select the comparer based on the data type of the custom field selected, if it is Text, Number, Date Time, Single Select Drop Down or Check box.

3rd field: enter the value of the custom field.
