Moosend lets you create automation workflows to send emails that are triggered by a specific condition, event, or activity that you have defined. You can define the conditions to set your automation using different types of triggers and the corresponding steps. You can create automation workflows from scratch or you can use available automation recipes such as welcome email or abandoned cart recipes. You can follow the automation creation process described below:
Step 1: Create a new automation
Create a new custom automation or from a recipe.
- In the top navigation bar, click the Automations tab.
- On the Automations page, hover your mouse over New, and click From recipe or Custom automation.
- If you've selected From recipe, you can select from the available automation recipes Moosend offers. On the Automation recipes page, navigate the list of recipes and select the recipe you want to use. You are redirected to the Automations page.
- If you've selected Custom automation, you are automatically redirected to the Automations page.
On the Automations page, you can do any of the following:
- edit the workflow's name and description
- add steps to, or remove steps from the automation workflow
- expand the list of incomplete tasks
- activate or deactivate the workflow
- save the workflow as a recipe
Step 2: Name your workflow
Enter the name of your automation workflow
- On the Automations page, in the left pane, click Edit.
- In the New automation field, enter a name for your automation.
- In the next field, you can leave your automation description blank. As soon as you start adding steps to your automation, a description is added that corresponds to each additional step. You can later edit the description and keep or modify the description parts that you want.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Select a trigger and add or remove steps
Define a trigger then add steps that follow when the trigger condition is met.
Every automation starts by defining a trigger then adding steps that are performed after the trigger condition is met.
- Click Select your trigger. The Select a Trigger window appears.
- Navigate the window and select a trigger.
Tip: You can click the tabs on the left to view triggers in corresponding categories. You can also use the Search bar to find a trigger.
- Click the arrow next to your selected trigger. For example, click the arrow beside When someone subscribes to any list. A dialog appears.
- In the Trigger only once? drop-down list, select either Yes or No. Your choice determines if the workflow is triggered for every subscription of the same recipient or only on the first subscription of your recipient.
- Click Save .
Note: If you want to return to the Select a Trigger dialog and select a different trigger, click Back to triggers.
- Click + below the trigger to add steps to your automation workflow.
- To remove a step, click and then click Remove. Any step you remove from your workflow is permanently deleted.
- To edit a step, click it to display the corresponding dialog. You don't have to fill out every detail of each step to continue with your workflow. You can click Save and return to the step later.
Tip: The left pane of the Automations page shows you a tasks list to remind you which steps of your automation need completion.
Step 4: Work with the tasks list
Check the list of pending tasks in your automation.
- On the Automations page, in the left pane, scroll to the tasks list. Your automation workflow status is Incomplete as long as there are pending tasks. The tasks list displays each remaining task and the step to which it belongs.
- To go back to any incomplete task, click a task on the tasks list. The dialog to edit the specific tasks appears.
- To complete the task, fill out the required details and click Save.
Step 5: Save the automation as a recipe
Save the workflow as a recipe.
- On the Automations page, in the left pane, click Save as recipe. The Save Workflow as Recipe dialog appears.
- Fill out the Recipe Name and Recipe Description fields, and then select the Recipe Industry from the drop-down menu. Make sure that you give your recipe a useful and recognizable name.
- Click Save. Any workflow you've saved is added to the Automation recipes page.
Step 6: Activate your automation
Set your workflow to Active status.
- Find name of automation that you want to activate and set the Inactive toggle switch to Active.
- To pause your automation, set the Active toggle switch to Inactive.
