How does the "When a custom field value is changed to a specific value" trigger work

Among the various available trigger types, the "When a custom field value is changed to a specific value" is the one that will have you thinking with precision since it reacts by setting your automation in motion when a Custom Field value is changed to a specific value. Custom Fields can be used in many ways, but it is when you design your own automation workflow that you will get the most out of them.

There are three parameters that you need to define on this type of trigger:
1. You need to choose whether the automation will be triggered for every change that occurs to that specific value, or whether it will be triggered only on the first change to that value.when_custom_field_is_changed_specific_value_1.png

2. The second parameter you need to define is the name of the Custom Field whose value needs to be changed in order to trigger your automation.

You will find all the available custom fields on the drop-down menu, along with the email list where each one is used, indicated by its name in brackets.

3. The last parameter you need to define is the actual value your custom field needs to be changed to, in order to trigger your automation.when_custom_field_is_changed_specific_value_2.png

In the available space, fill in the appropriate value, based on the type of the custom field you chose:

  • Number
    Fill in a numeric value.

  • Text
Fill in a text value (case sensitive).

  • Single-select drop-down
Fill in the exact value you have set on the drop-down options of your Custom Field (case sensitive).

  • Checkbox
Type-in "true" or "false" based on whether the checkbox will be ticked or not ticked, respectively.

  • Date Time
This type of Custom Field has its own trigger, called When a specific day is reached, which you can utilize to trigger your automation on a specific date, or any number of days before or after the date of a Custom Field is reached.

As soon as you are done, click on the Save button to have your trigger ready and waiting inside your workflow.

Please keep in mind that any changes in your Email lists and/or your Custom Fields may affect your automation when you use this type of trigger, so make sure that you take this under consideration when you make such changes.
