Real-time data, like the current weather conditions at a customer's location, can be leveraged to your brand’s benefit when utilized for up-selling / cross-selling.
Is your business selling seasonal goods? This automated workflow recipe aims at customers who just made a purchase, sending the most appropriate up-sell/cross-sell option, based on the weather conditions in their area, while your regular customers can receive a heartwarming thank-you email instead.
If you have already found the Weather-based up-sell/cross-sell recipe among the available recipes, and know-how recipes are laid out, then let's go right ahead and see the ingredients of this recipe:
A. Overview
The trigger (1) for this recipe is called When someone purchases any product and, as its name implies, it fires up your automation when someone purchases a product from your website. Following the trigger is the Purchased a Product conditional step (2) which discerns between regular customers and non-regular customers. If the customer is new, then the Filter by weather conditions in contact's location control step (3) will check the weather at the customer's location and move ahead with the proper campaign, depending on whether it's raining (4) or not (5). If the customer is a repeat buyer, they will receive a regular thank-you email (6). The available Wait a specific time interval steps are there to put some time between the purchase event and the dispatch of the campaign.
B. Changing the Recipe
If you are already familiar with how to use Action steps and Conditional / Control steps, you can use that knowledge to change parts of this recipe as you see fit. It's exactly like creating or editing one of your own automation designs: you can add steps, remove steps, or edit the steps already available to fit your design's needs.
You can also save your changes as a custom recipe, and use it at your leisure.
