Add and edit campaign items
Learn how to design a layout for your newsletter using items.
Moosend lets you set up a newsletter structure with different sections. When you create an email marketing campaign with the campaign editor, you can drag default items into these sections. You can add the following default items: images, text, timers, social share, social follow, videos, and products.
You can also add a saved custom item, or add a variable to a transactional email template.
Add an image item
The image item allows you to add an image to your newsletter.
To add an image item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Image.
Drag the image item to an empty layout.
To add an image, drag an image into the image item.
Alternatively, to use an image from another source, double-click the image item and use the image picker.
In the Image pane on the right, you can change the following settings:
Change the background color, set alignment, add padding, and image border radius.
Set a link URL and enter an alternative text to be displayed if the image cannot be displayed.
Crop your image and adjust its size.
Change your image.
Remove your image.
Add a text item
The text item allows you to add text to your newsletter.
To add a text item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Text.
Drag the text item to an empty layout.
Click the text item to enter your text.
Tip
Use the AI writer to generate text suggestions, add emojis, and much more.
In the text toolbar, you can use the editing options, as well as:
Upload a file - click File to upload a file. Drag a file into the field, or click the field to browse to add a new file, or select a recent file from the list. To remove a file, click .
Check spelling - click to set the dictionary language for spell check.
Use personalization tags - click the Personalization Tags drop-down menu and select a personalization tag to add it inside your campaign.
Add a button item
The button item allows you to add a button to your newsletter.
To add a button item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Button.
Drag the button item to an empty layout.
Click the button item to open the Button pane to the right. You can use the options to:
Edit the button settings.
Customize the button label.
Edit the shape of the button.
Add an article item
The article item typically consist of two parts: an image and a text. You can use articles to connect your newsletters to your site.
To add an article item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Article.
Drag the article item to an empty layout.
Note
You can add an article item to any layout except the 1/3 or 1/4 slots.
Click the article item to open the Article settings. In the right-hand pane, add the text and image parts of your article.
Use the options to style the article.
To switch the positions of the image and the text, scroll to Image position and click Right.
Add a spacer item
The spacer item lets you add a space, which you can style as a block of color, or a line between items in your newsletter.
To add a spacer item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Spacer.
Drag the spacer item to an empty layout.
Click the spacer item to open the Spacer settings.
Use the options to style the spacer.
Add a social share item
The social share item lets you provide a link that your subscribers can share on social media.
To add a social share item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Social share.
Drag the social share item to an empty layout.
To edit the settings of a social share item, in the right-hand Social Share pane:
To change the item's background color, click the icon in the Background Color field and select a color from the palette.
To remove a social share item from your design, click the social media icon that you want to remove. A removed icon will be displayed as unavailable in the pane.
To add the link that your subscribers can share when they click any of the social share buttons, fill in the Share URL field.
To edit the styling, you can set spacing, choose alignment, and icon style.
Add a social media item
The social media item lets your recipients follow your social media accounts.
To add a social media item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Social media.
Drag the social media item to an empty layout.
Click the social media item inside your design to open the Social media settings pane, where you can change the change the following settings:
To remove, move, or duplicate the social media item, hover your mouse over it and click the corresponding toolbar icon.
In the Social Settings section, insert your social media URLs into the relevant fields.
Add an HTML item
You can add an HTML item to use your own HTML code or embed available HTML content blocks in your newsletter. You can then add your preferred HTML script or code snippet in the item to customize your design.
To add an HTML item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click HTML.
Drag the HTML item to an empty layout.
Click the item to display the HTML settings in the right-hand pane of the editor.
In the HTML content field, copy and paste the HTML code snippet you want to use in the design and then press Enter on your keyboard.
Add a timer item
Countdown timers add a timer item to the email template that shows how much time remains for the recipient to respond. This can help to add urgency to a campaign.
To add a timer item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Timer.
Drag the timer item to an empty (full width) layout.
Click the timer item to display the Timer settings in the editor's right-hand pane and specify the display details of your timer. You can set the following:
Theme - the options are Plain and Boxes. The Boxes theme adds adjustable boxes inside the timer (days, hours, minutes, seconds). You can select a box color, box radius, border color, and border width.
Expiration Date - choose the date and time for your timer to expire.
Note
The timer expiration date and time is based on your time zone and expires at the same time for all users. For example, if you set your timer to expire in 5 hours, it expires for everyone, regardless of their time zone, in 5 hours.
Font Family - choose the font types for the label letters and counter numbers of the timer.
Label Color - choose a color for the labels under each counter.
Timer Color - choose a color for the numbers on the counters.
Click Generate Timer.
Add a video item
The video item allows you to add an online video to your newsletter.
To add a video item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Video.
Drag the video item to an empty layout.
Click the video item to display the Video settings in the right-hand pane and specify the following settings:
Background Color - click to select a background color. The default is Transparent.
Video URL - enter the video URL and click to upload.
Note
The video item might not work if you have entered a short URL for the video instead of a full link or if you have not set the video to Public.
You can use the styling options to edit the padding and border.
Image Picker - click to upload a custom cover image for your video.
Show Play Icon - select the check box to display a play icon.
Note
When a subscriber clicks the cover image or the play icon, the video does not start playing but instead redirects to the specified video URL.
Add a product item
The product item allows you to add a product from your website to your newsletter.
For transactional email templates, you cannot add a product item. Instead, add a product using a dynamic text variable.
Before you begin
To add products from your website to your campaign, you must first enable tracking of your website.
To add a product item:
On the campaign editor page, in the left pane under Items, click Product.
Drag the product item to a layout in the editing area.
Double click the product item on the page and in the Search for product dialog, enter information for the following fields:
Select website - select a website from the drop-down list that displays all websites that are connected and verified with your account.
Search product - enter a search term to find the product that you want to add. For a product to display in this list, it must have had a tracking event (Product view, Added to cart, and so on).
Click Select product.
In the Product settings pane, you can change the background color for your product item, the border width, color, and radius.
Under Product Details, you can specify:
Use for Gmail Promotions Tab - in the Product Details section, turn the Use for Gmail Promotions Tab switch on to select to use the product to annotate your email on the Gmail promotion tab.
Title - adds a title under the product.
Featured image - upload an image from your computer, or directly from various other sources, such as Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, and so on.
Description - adds a description for the product.
Price - adds the price of the selected product. Automatically filled with the product's price number, depending on the value you pass through the tracking events. If no value is passed through the tracking events, a default price is displayed. You can leave this field empty or add a price.
Old Price - adds the old price of the selected product. Automatically filled with the product's price number, depending on the value you pass through the tracking events. If no value is passed through the tracking events, a default price is displayed. You can leave this field empty or add an a price.
Product Code/SKU - the product code of the selected product. This is automatically filled with the product's code. You can leave this field empty or add a product code.
Button Link - the URL of the selected product. This is automatically filled with the product's URL. You can leave this field empty or add a URL.
Button Label - the label of the button that links to the URL of your product. By default, set to Shop now but you can change the label.
To add a product, click Select a product.
Use the additional drop-down options to edit Title Styles, Description Styles, Price Styles, Old Price Styles, Code/SKU Styles, and Button Styles.
